Cherokee Country Club

Perched on a bluff above the Tennessee River, Cherokee Country Club is a compact Donald Ross redesign (1919–1920) whose routing still leans into creek lines, boundary edges, and elevation to create variety on limited ground. From the back tees it plays par 70 at ~6,370 yards (71.3/134), with the course’s identity defined by six par-3s (including the short, defended 8th, the stout 12th along the railroad, and a par-3 18th finish) and four par-5s that turn through the property’s lowlands. The outward half’s 7–9 river run and the shared 11/15 double remain signature sequences, asking for angle control into small, slightly elevated targets restored to proper scale. A Ron Prichard program—guided by historic aerials and completed for play in re-established lost fairway width, cross-bunkering, and green-edge contour without disturbing Ross’s cadence. The club’s tournament résumé is long, highlighted most recently by hosting the Tennessee State Amateur in 2012 and 2022, evidence that the strategic puzzle Ross set here still holds up in modern conditions. Practice facilities include a range plus putting and chipping greens; access is private.
