Cohasset Golf Club

Founded in 1894 on Boston’s South Shore, Cohasset Golf Club is a private club centered on an 18-hole Donald Ross course opened in 1922 (after his earlier c.1909 work to expand the original six-hole Campbell layout). The routing still threads across rocky ledge and brooks, asking for precise approaches into compact, elevated greens. From the back tees it plays 6,268 yards, par 71 (71.3/134), with the club’s most cited stretch including the creek-laced 4th, the downhill 231-yard 12th, the drivable 13th, and the rock-framed, bunkerless 16th. A Ross-minded restoration by Ron Prichard (1999–2000) reopened playing widths, recaptured green perimeters and adjusted bunkering; Ron Forse (2014) then rebuilt the 12th green to its original footprint and moderated two overly steep surfaces for modern green speeds—work that preserved Ross’s angles without altering his cadence. Members practice on a driving range and short-game area adjacent to the clubhouse, then finish in a shingle-style clubhouse offering casual and formal dining and a function room with course views. The club is private and member-owned; walking is common and the setup favors thoughtful placement over brute length.
