Country Club of Asheville

Set in Asheville’s Beaverdam Valley five miles north of downtown, the Country Club of Asheville (CCA) presents a compact mountain walk with long views to the skyline and a routing that climbs and descends the valley’s shoulders. The private club centers on an 18-hole course attributed to Donald Ross at this site in 1928 and reopened in 2017 following a full-course restoration that rebuilt all greens, refreshed bunkering, and expanded practice facilities. Today the course plays to a par 71 and just under 6,650 yards from the back tees, with bentgrass greens and fairways and frequent elevation change. A modern practice ground includes a 25-tee range, chipping and putting greens, and an enlarged putting course adjacent to the first tee; an indoor simulator supports year-round instruction. The clubhouse anchors a broader campus of aquatics, tennis and fitness amenities typical of a full-service private club. On the ground, play is defined by creeks that bisect or flank multiple fairways (notably at 10, 11 and 14), sloped approaches to elevated targets (1, 4, 15, 18), and a sequence on 16–18 that demands precise distance control into firm, contoured surfaces. The club is member-only with limited outside access through private events and reciprocal arrangements.
