Country Club of Birmingham - West
The West Course is part of the Country Club of Birmingham, a private and historic institution founded in 1898. The club relocated to its current location in Mountain Brook during the mid-1920s. Originally designed by golf legend Donald Ross in the late 1920s, the course received substantial modifications from Robert Trent Jones Sr. in the 1950s. Further redesigns and updates came from Pete Dye, notably in the 1980s and again in 2009.
The West Course features gently undulating parkland terrain, tree-lined fairways, and a natural wooded backdrop. The course is celebrated for its “quick and pure greens,” varied elevation shifts, and green complexes guarded by moguls and bunkers. This layout provides both scenic enjoyment and strategic demand.
Regularly praised as one of Alabama’s top golf courses—often ranked 2nd in the state—thanks to its thoughtful design, memorable holes, and quality playability.
