Country Club of Buffalo

Set on the Onondaga escarpment in Williamsville, New York (east of Buffalo), the Country Club of Buffalo (CCB) presents a private, walk-first parkland course whose character turns on its unusual limestone geology. Six holes traverse or play along an abandoned quarry, yielding abrupt landforms, exposed stone, and elevated plateaus that shape both sightlines and strategy. Today the Ross course plays primarily as a par-70 with roughly 6,400–6,600 yards depending on tees, with multiple forward options and a balanced mix of half-par holes that keep single-digit and higher-handicap golfers equally engaged. Practice is anchored by a full range and short-game areas; inside, the clubhouse overlooks the long, uphill home hole framed by a rock garden cut into the escarpment. CCB’s golf identity is tournament-tested: the club hosted USGA championships at earlier sites and will again host the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur (2027) and U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur (2032) on the present Ross course. In recent decades, thoughtful restoration has emphasized Ross’s original intent—reclaiming fairway width, bunkering patterns, and green edges—while preserving the quarry drama that defines the experience.
