Country Club of Virginia - Westhampton Course

The Westhampton Course is the oldest of the Country Club of Virginia's three courses and the only one at the club's original campus, beside the Westhampton clubhouse in Richmond's West End. The James River and Tuckahoe Creek courses are on the club's second campus, seven miles away. CCV is private, and play is for members and their guests. The club describes gently rolling fairways cut through pine and oak, and the aerials show tree-lined corridors on nearly every hole, with houses close along several of them. From the Blue tees the course is 6,194 yards and par 70, with five par 3s and three par 5s. Its defence is on and around the greens: the club calls them small and sloping, and says putting is hardest from above the hole. The 4th, the longest hole, has the smallest green and a creek that crosses its fairway and follows the left side up to the green. Lester George's renovation, completed in 2005, rebuilt bunkers and tees and redesigned the practice range, which with the 1st hole now occupies the ground of the club's old third nine, the "Goat Course." From 2006 to 2016 Westhampton was the regular home of the Senior Open of Virginia, played there ten times. Across its two campuses the club also has pools, a fitness and racquet complex and several restaurants.
