Country Club of Virginia - Westhampton Course
Set in Richmond’s West End, the Westhampton Course at The Country Club of Virginia is a compact, walkable test that emphasizes placement over raw power. The oldest of CCV’s three courses, it occupies mature, rolling parkland framed by pines and oaks and is defined by small, sloping greens that reward controlled trajectories and precise short-game recoveries. Today Westhampton plays as a private, members’ course at roughly 6,200 yards from the back markers (par 70). A 2005 renovation by Richmond-based architect Lester George refreshed bunkers, expanded and improved the practice grounds that occupy the former “Goat Course” corridor, and, in the club’s words, “restored many Donald Ross features,” while preserving the course’s traditional cadence between greens and tees. Westhampton retains a lively tournament schedule and has frequently served the Virginia State Golf Association as a host venue—most notably for the Senior Open of Virginia—yet its day-to-day character remains member-friendly and walkable. CCV’s broader campus amenities include multiple restaurants and a state-of-the-art practice facility, but Westhampton itself remains the historic heart of the club’s golf, offering a classic Ross-era experience in the city proper.
