Country Club of York

Set on high ground in York’s southside, the Country Club of York (CCY) plays across long views and a central plateau that drop toward stream valleys on the east. Today’s private club centers on an 18-hole, par-72 course attributed to Donald Ross and opened for play in 1927; contemporary back-tee yardage is reported between ~6,550 and ~6,730 yards depending on source and tee set. The club advertises nearly sixty deep-faced bunkers and distinctive, compact greens as the course’s primary defenses. Practice facilities include a full driving range, short-game areas, and putting greens; the hilltop clubhouse anchors a larger campus with pool, racquets, dining, and event spaces. CCY maintains an active tournament pedigree—most notably the 1999 U.S. Junior Amateur won by Hunter Mahan—and continues to host state and USGA qualifying play. The club is strictly private; guest access is by invitation. Overall, the playing experience is defined by steady elevation transitions, Ross’s walkable routing on the central ridge, and the course’s cohesive bunker presentation following modern restorative work.
