Ross's par 5, a par 4 since 1965

The 4th, 448 yards from the Black tees, is stroke index 1. In Ross's design it was a par 5, the second of back-to-back par 5s after the 3rd, and it became a par 4 in 1965. The hole bends gently right at about 270 yards between tree lines on both sides. A bunker sits on the right edge of the fairway about 160 yards from the tee, and two more on the left lie about 77 and 95 yards short of the green's centre. The green is wider than it is deep and open across the front, with fairway running onto it and a bunker off each front corner.
