Homestead Old Course

Set in Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains, the Old Course at The Omni Homestead Resort plays over rolling ground immediately adjacent to the historic hotel complex in Hot Springs. Today’s layout measures 6,099 yards from the back tees, par 72, with an unusual balance of six par threes, six par fours, and six par fives. The opening tee beside the road and colonnaded hotel façade is a working artifact: the resort presents it as the nation’s oldest first tee still in continuous use, a claim that gives the round a museum-piece starting point before the golf quickly climbs into the hills. The resort operates the Old Course as part of a two-course complex (with the Cascades nearby) and offers a full-service clubhouse, pro shop, and practice facilities, including a modern driving range located on the hotel side of the property. The club’s public-facing “Old Course Tour” provides hole-by-hole descriptions that match what a visitor encounters: blind landing areas on several par fives and par fours, multiple greens with pronounced false fronts, and a par-3 finisher that plays from an elevated tee back toward the clubhouse. Resort access governs play—guests book tee times through the Homestead—with seasonal conditioning typical of mountain golf and views that remain integral to the experience.
