Kinderton Country Club

Kinderton Country Club sits just north of downtown Clarksville, Virginia, above the upper reaches of Buggs Island Lake (John H. Kerr Reservoir). Today the club operates as a semi-private facility with 18 holes, practice putting green and a driving range, supported by a modest clubhouse core with pool and racket amenities added during the Burlington Industries era and maintained by the present membership. The golf course stretches over rolling Piedmont ground with water influencing multiple shots, and tree-lined corridors that narrow at landing zones. From the back (Blue) tees the course measures 6,451 yards and plays to par 71 for men (par 72 for women), with MiniVerde ultradwarf bermudagrass on the greens and a bermudagrass mix in fairways and rough. The front nine is the surviving work associated with Donald Ross, while the inward nine reflects Dick Wilson’s hand; the contrast is evident in the shaping of putting surfaces and in the placement of water and bunkers. The hole-by-hole card highlights a stout stretch on the outward half—particularly the long par-4 6th across water and the uphill par-3 8th—and a demanding par-3 17th over a bulkheaded pond late in the round. Visitors will encounter a traditional, walkable layout framed by everyday member use and regional play.
