Lake Sunapee Country Club

Lake Sunapee Country Club sits in New London, New Hampshire, midway between Concord and Hanover, on rolling uplands with long views to Mount Kearsarge. It is a private club with classic New England amenities: an 18-hole Donald Ross course, a grass practice range, seasonal indoor simulators, and a clubhouse that also serves weddings and community events. Today the course plays to a par of 70 and a maximum yardage of 6,704 from the Black tees; the walk remains compact, with short green-to-tee transitions that keep the round moving and emphasize the original ground game. The club highlights its connection to Gene Sarazen—who summered here, left memorabilia that is displayed in the clubhouse restaurant “Henry’s,” and, according to local tradition, even influenced a single bunker alteration during his years on property. Visitors encounter a quietly rural setting, restored mountain vistas following recent tree work, expanded green perimeters that recapture 1920s putting-surface character, and bunkers set to re-emphasize Ross’s intended angles. Facilities include the private practice range (member/guest use only) and off-season Foresight-equipped simulator bays. Overall, Lake Sunapee presents as a preserved late-1920s Ross walk with sensitive twenty-first-century maintenance and restoration touches.
