Savannah Golf Club

Set a mile east of Savannah’s Historic District on President Street, the Savannah Golf Club’s course occupies low, sandy ground laced with historic earthworks from Civil War defenses. It is a private, member-owned club with an 18-hole course that the club credits to Donald J. Ross, now par 72 and published at 6,481 yards from the back tees. Practice facilities include a range and putting areas adjacent to the clubhouse. Today’s round moves through corridors framed by live oaks and the preserved ramparts, with water in play on select holes and closely-mown surrounds encouraging recoveries along the ground. The club states that its current presentation reflects a Hanse Golf Design master plan adopted beginning in 2018—ongoing work that the club characterizes as a restoration of the Ross character—following earlier, smaller-scale in-house renovations a few years prior that rebuilt a subset of bunkers and emphasized “table-top” green perimeters. The club also highlights an extensive competitive record, including repeated hosting of the Georgia Amateur and other state events. Yardage and hole-by-hole data are available on the club’s online scorecard.
