Triggs Memorial Golf Club

On Providence’s west side, Triggs Memorial occupies the former Obadiah Brown Farm—132–140 acres of gently rolling city land bordered today by schools and Rhode Island College. The municipally owned course is leased to a private operator and functions as a public facility with daily-fee access. Visitors encounter a full-length driving range, putting green, golf shop, V-Golf simulators, and a casual grill; leagues and Rhode Island Golf Association events are regular fixtures. From the back tees, Triggs plays to a par 72 at roughly 6,550–6,600 yards depending on setup, with a course rating around the low-71s and slope near 129. The round opens with a stern procession of long par-4s that establish the course’s reputation for demanding second shots; the middle of each nine offers scoring chances on reachable par-5s and short par-4s; the finish stiffens again with stout two-shotters. The greens are modest in size, with interior movement that places a premium on controlling approach spin and leaving uphill putts. Routing flows compactly across the property, and the back nine introduces more elevation change than the front. Recent facilities investments have modernized the parking lots, signage, clubhouse, and pro shop. In present conditions, Triggs is classic municipal golf: walkable, busy, and strategically engaging when presented firm, with small greens and restored bunkers doing most of the defending.
