Vesper Country Club
Set on Tyngs Island in the Merrimack River with additional holes on the mainland shoreline, Vesper is a private, member-owned club whose golf course literally crosses water twice during the round. Today’s facilities include a full practice range, chipping area, and putting green, along with leagues, junior programs, a golf shop, and instruction. The course plays over both the island (“Island Nine”) and the riverbank (“Mainland Nine”), reaching 6,784 yards, par 72 from the back tees in the club’s current setup. The opening shot is a short, drivable par-4 over the entrance road; later, par-3 tee shots at the 4th and 14th carry the Merrimack itself. Greens are compact and often crowned or tiered, with multiple holes featuring pronounced false fronts. The day-to-day experience is classic New England parkland with water in view, short green-to-tee walks, and a routing that alternates scoring chances with stern, angle-sensitive long par-4s. Members and guests encounter a walkable course that becomes strategically exacting when conditions are firm and the restored bunkers and green edges are presented at speed.
