York Golf & Tennis Club

Set above the north bank of the York River in coastal southern Maine, York Golf & Tennis Club’s William Wilson Course is a private, 18-hole layout that plays today at roughly 6,300 yards, par 70, over rumpled riverfront ground within York Village. The clubhouse sits near the 1st and 18th, with an outdoor deck overlooking both, and the golf operation includes a driving range and putting green. Members encounter a compact property with frequent shifts in direction and elevation, several crossings of internal wetlands and ponds, and a mid-round stretch that traces the river’s edge. The opening hole is an unusually stern par three; from there the front nine works toward and along the river before climbing to a high point and turning home. The back nine mixes short and mid-length two-shotters with a reachable par five and two par threes that demand precise placement. The club is private, offering member golf and an active tennis program on Har-Tru and hard courts. The course itself is known internally as the William Wilson Course, a tribute to the club’s long-serving professional, while external guides and historical references also associate the design with Donald Ross.
