Athens Country Club

Athens Country Club is a private 9-holes layout opened in 1921, with Donald Ross refinements made in 1925–26. The course rolls over hilly terrain with narrow fairways and small, quick bent-grass greens—classic Ross characteristics that keep the short card honest. From the back tees the nine plays to par 36 and 3,132 yards (USGA rating/slope 35.0/131). A standout is the 408-yard, dogleg-left 3rd, played from an elevated tee to an elevated green, while water influences play on seven of the nine holes. The club sits just west of downtown Athens (7606 Country Club Rd.) and includes on-site practice facilities, offering a traditional, walkable test that rewards placement and short-game control.
