Athens Country Club

Athens Country Club is a private club on Jefferson Road in Athens, Georgia, founded in 1926. Membership is by invitation, with three member sponsors. Its 18-hole Ross Course, laid out by Donald Ross in 1926, is joined by the nine-hole Dudley Course, a 1985 George Cobb nine that Ron Forse redesigned in 2024. The Ross Course plays to par 72 and 6,954 yards from the Blue tees, with nine tee sets on the card down to 4,464 yards. It runs over hilly ground, and its fairways are lined with trees. The greens are small bentgrass surfaces with subtle breaks; Forse rebuilt them to Ross's specifications in a two-year restoration finished in 2010, which also added length and new chipping and putting greens. The par 5s vary widely, from 449 to 579 yards, and the hardest hole on the card is the 444-yard 7th. The course is a regular Georgia State Golf Association venue: it has staged the Georgia Amateur seven times, most recently in 2018, and the Georgia Women's Amateur in 2026. The golf shop is staffed by PGA professionals and has TrackMan and SAM PuttLab, and the club runs men's and women's golf groups and an Operation 36 junior programme. Away from golf there are two restaurants, 12 lighted tennis courts, six pickleball courts, a pool and a fitness centre.
