Bellevue Country Club

Bellevue Country Club is a private club on Onondaga Hill on the southwest edge of Syracuse. Its clubhouse sits on a knoll on the north side of the property, with the course rising behind it and views north over the city to Onondaga Lake. The 18-hole course plays to a par of 71 and measures 6,459 yards from the Blue tees. It is a returning-nines routing, compact enough that each green sits close to the next tee, and the holes run up, down and across the slopes, so many shots are played from uneven stances. Fairways are narrow and lined with mature trees, and fairways, tees and greens are bentgrass. The greens are small and sloping; a spring-fed pond sits short of the 8th green. Holes 11 through 14, built in 1968 in a former limestone quarry, are enclosed by woods, and the round ends downhill toward the clubhouse on the 449-yard 18th. The 1917 clubhouse, designed by club member and Syracuse University architecture professor Justus Moak Scrafford, keeps its original ballroom under an oak-trussed ceiling and the Iroquois Dining Room. Later additions include the glass-walled Room on the Green, the Donald Ross Tavern, a fitness centre and an Olympic-size outdoor pool. The course and clubhouse are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Bellevue hosts New York State Golf Association events, most recently the 2026 Super Senior and Legends Amateur Championships, and plays each year in the League of 1913 with Oak Hill, Wanakah and Yahnundasis.
