Hole 3 · Par 4 · 365 yds

The one hole Ross moved: a river tee, a split fairway and no sand

The 365-yard 3rd from the Blue tees is the hole Donald Ross worked on: the club's history records that in 1929 he redesigned its tee and green placement. It runs nearly straight, with woods along the entire right side toward the Schuylkill. The fairway comes in two sections, a lower one and an upper one that bulges right, split by a band of rough angling across about 145 to 185 yards short of the green. There is no sand. Four mounds of tan, unmown grass line the left edge between about 65 and 130 yards short of the green, which is roughly round and about 30 yards across, with a bank along its left side.
