Chautauqua Golf Club - Lake Course

Chautauqua Golf Club sits on West Lake Road on the western side of Chautauqua Lake in western New York, beside the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution, the non-profit education centre that owns it. The club has two 18-hole courses: the Lake Course, completed in 1924 to Donald Ross's design, and the Hill Course on the higher ground above it, which Xen Hassenplug designed. Both are open to the public, with tee times and daily fees through the season alongside individual and corporate memberships. The club has a pro shop, a learning center for practice and instruction, and the Double Eagle patio for food and drinks. The Lake Course is par 72 and 6,470 yards from the Blue tees, rated 71.9 with a slope of 135. Fairways roll across the slope toward the lake, many of them between tree lines, and the club's own hole guide returns again and again to small, steeply tilted greens that break toward the water. Ponds come into play on the short 6th, the 14th and the 15th, and West Lake Road runs beside the 7th and 14th. Holes 14 through 16 date from a 1980s rerouting, and a master plan by Chris Wilczynski proposes returning the course to Ross's layout. A new cart path went in on the Lake Course before the 2025 season.
