Concord Country Club
Concord Country Club is a private Donald Ross course completed in two phases on Concord's south side: his first nine opened July 4, 1914, and Ross returned to build the second nine in 1929, with the full 18 holes opening in 1930. The routing rolls over ledge and through shallow ravines, asking for precise approaches into compact, slightly elevated greens that shed timid shots. From the back tees the course plays 6,703 yards, par 70 (with additional sets down to roughly 4,800 yards), and the character of the test is defined by holes like the ravine-carry 4th, the downhill 12th with a pronounced false front, the rock-framed, mostly bunkerless 16th, and an elevated 18th pinched by deep front bunkers—each a clear expression of Ross's work here.
In recent decades the club has pursued historically minded refinement: Ron Prichard (1999–2000) widened fairways, recaptured original green perimeters and corrected non-Ross bunkering, and Ron Forse (2014) rebuilt the 12th green to its original footprint and moderated two overly severe surfaces for modern speeds. Members warm up on a full driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green before finishing in a shingle-style clubhouse with locker rooms, grille, and seasonal patio dining overlooking the closing stretch. Additional amenities include Har-Tru tennis courts, a heated pool, junior programming, and an active year-round social calendar. The club is private, with several membership categories; limited outside outings are accommodated by arrangement.
