Detroit Golf Club - South

Detroit Golf Club’s South Course occupies the eastern half of the club’s 17911 Hamilton Road property on Detroit’s north side, sharing facilities with the North Course and the 1918 Albert Kahn clubhouse. The club is private, with a full practice range, instruction program, pool and racquets amenities, and multiple dining venues. The South Course presents a contrasting rhythm to the longer championship North: it is a par-68, walkable Ross course with six par-3s and a present back-tee yardage of 6,098 yards. The club’s hole-by-hole guide emphasizes sloping and at times “severely” pitched putting surfaces, several greens set on small pads, and a number of cross- or fore-bunkers that shape preferred lines, all encountered within narrow, tree-lined corridors. In recent years the South Course has figured in the club’s tournament footprint: the PGA TOUR’s Rocket Mortgage Classic has used the South’s 1st hole as part of the event’s composite routing. Looking ahead, the club has approved a master plan to restore original Ross character on both courses, with work staged 2025–26, complementing earlier South-side bunker work by architect Bruce Hepner.
