Durand Eastman Park Golf Course

Laid into ravines and wooded ridges above Lake Ontario, Durand Eastman Park Golf Course is Rochester's most dramatic municipal layout. Operated by Monroe County Parks inside the 977-acre Durand Eastman Park, the course is public daily-fee, with a compact clubhouse and standard services (golf shop, snack bar) rather than country-club amenities. The current 18-hole routing plays par 70 at roughly 6,000 yards from the back tees (par 72 from the forward set), with wide swings in elevation, several creek crossings, and a handful of ponds that influence line and club selection. Fairways thread through tree-lined valleys; many green pads sit on benches or shelves, so approaches often climb, fall, or must carry a swale. Although the course is frequently busy—typical for a county facility—the park setting is the constant: the back-nine ridge west of Kings Highway offers the quietest corridors, while the front side steps in and out of deeper ravines closer to the lake. First-timers should expect an old-school walk, with some uphill treks between greens and tees, cart paths where grade demands, and a scorecard that rewards placement over brute length.
