Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club

Set on Grosse Ile—an island in the Detroit River south of Detroit—Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club is a private, member-based club whose 18-hole course is attributed to Donald Ross and laid out across subtle ridges and two shallow north–south valleys that define much of today’s playing experience. Contemporary back-tee yardage is listed at 6,828 yards, par 71, with a routing that now places five holes and the clubhouse north of Bellevue Road and thirteen holes to the south. Facilities include dining and a full clubhouse program, tennis and swimming, an active caddie program tied to the Evans Scholars Foundation, and standard golf amenities; public listings also note a driving range and putting green. Visitors today encounter plateaued, tilted greens and purposeful use of the island’s modest relief—features that have long shaped the club’s reputation for firm, exacting approaches. The club remains private, with several membership categories published.
