Manakiki Golf Course

Set on the former Howard Hanna estate in Willoughby (now Willoughby Hills), Ohio, Manakiki Golf Course is an 18-hole public facility within Cleveland Metroparks’ North Chagrin Reservation. Today’s visitor encounters a classic, tree-lined parkland routing with frequent elevation change, back-to-back par fives, and two dramatic “canyon” crossings that bookend the inward nine. The clubhouse occupies the surviving west wing of the Hanna mansion; food and beverage operations and event spaces function in tandem with daily public play. Practice amenities include a putting green and short-game area; carts are supported by continuous paths that enable play in most weather. From the back tees the course plays to 6,656 yards, par 72, with a blend of short and stout two-shotters and a long, water-guarded par three at the 15th. Manakiki is municipal-accessible but historically pedigreed: it hosted early-1950s PGA Tour Carling Open events and retains a routing and many features traceable to Donald Ross’s original work for Manakiki Country Club. Metroparks undertook a master plan beginning in 1990 to restore elements of the historic character (including pond work and selective tee/bunker projects), while everyday conditioning and tree management shape the present-day playing experience.
