Palmetto Golf Club

Palmetto Golf Club sits just north of downtown Aiken on sand-based, gently rolling ground that has hosted continuous golf since the 1890s. The club is private, with a low-profile clubhouse core dating to 1902 (Stanford White) and a compact practice range near today’s 16th–18th corridor. The course plays par 71 / 6,695 yards from the championship tees, with small, elevated, and lively greens and artfully placed bunkers that keep scoring tight despite modest length. In season, the presentation favors firm-running approaches and exacting recoveries around steep fall-offs and interior contours. Tournament traffic is anchored by the Palmetto Amateur, a long-running elite amateur event; the competitive course record is 59 (Dane Burkhart, Aug. 14, 2005) set in its final round. Visiting competitors encounter an intimate walking experience in a classic club setting rather than a resort operation, and the membership maintains a continuing architectural program intended to preserve the course’s historic character while keeping it tournament-ready.
