Pinehurst #3
Opened in 1910 and re-worked by Donald Ross in the 1920s, Pinehurst No. 3 is the shortest regulation course at the resort but one of its most charming. Stretching just over 5,000 yards, it offers a par-68 test that emphasizes accuracy and finesse over power. Ross’s hand is evident in the small, turtleback greens and strategic bunkering, which make precision approaches essential. The routing makes clever use of the compact property, providing variety and challenge while maintaining playability. After recent renovations, the course retains its classic Ross character and serves as a reminder that great design is not defined by length but by thoughtful strategy and contour.
