Ponkapoag Golf Club #1

Set on the eastern edge of the Blue Hills Reservation in Canton, Massachusetts, Ponkapoag Golf Course #1 is a state-owned, public course operated by the Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR). The 18-hole layout today plays par 72 at 6,742 yards from the back (Black) tees, with Blue and White options at 6,508 and 6,086 yards; the course carries USGA ratings of 73.2/130 (Black), 72.0/128 (Blue), and 69.9/121 (White). Facilities on the combined 36-hole property include a driving range, putting green, snack bar, pro shop, cart fleet, and instruction, reflecting the site’s role as a regional public golf hub. The routing rolls through sandy glacial soils and modest wetland edges associated with Ponkapoag Brook, and the round’s character is defined less by elevation than by angles, cross-winds, and a cadence of reachable par-5s balanced by stout mid-iron par-3s. As a DCR venue, the course operates on a seasonal public tee-time system rather than a private membership model, though regular players can purchase season tickets through the operator.
