River Oaks Country Club

River Oaks Country Club occupies a broad meander of Buffalo Bayou in Houston’s River Oaks neighborhood, three miles west of downtown. It is a private club with a large Spanish Revival clubhouse, a prominent racquets complex that hosts the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships, and expansive practice grounds created in the mid-2010s renovation (a multi-acre range, short-game areas, and a four-hole short course). The golf course presents tree-lined corridors across alternating bayou terraces; elevation changes are modest for Houston but meaningful off the bluffs above the water. The current championship setup plays par 72 with published back-tee yardages up to 7,125 yards, reflecting new tee placements and flexible event yardages. Day-to-day presentation emphasizes sand hazard placement and green-site interest over forced water carries; water enters decisively near the bayou or where 1960s work introduced lakes. Access is exclusively via membership.
