Schuylkill Country Club

Schuylkill Country Club sits on rolling, wooded terrain just west of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, about 25 minutes north of Reading. A private, member-owned club, it offers an 18-hole course credited to a 1940s Donald Ross expansion/redesign of an earlier nine, together with a practice range, short-game and putting areas adjacent to the clubhouse. A recently added on-site Lodge—set near the eleventh hole—accommodates member stay-and-play gatherings and underscores the club’s current investment in the golf experience. From the back tees the course plays par 72 at roughly 6,800 yards. Day-to-day play emphasizes placement from the tee into canted fairways and precise distance control into elevated or edge-defended greens; several interior ponds and a stream influence club selection on the inward half but the property’s movement—up, across, and along ridgelines—does most of the strategic work. Club communications present the course expressly as a Willie Park Jr. origin (1919–21) that Ross recast into a full 18 in the mid-1940s; current pages also highlight the setting’s “classic Donald Ross greens,” a point borne out in modern hole-by-hole field notes.
