Southern Pines Golf Club

Southern Pines Golf Club sits within the town of Southern Pines, NC, a few miles south of Pinehurst in the Sandhills. The club operates today as an open-to-the-public/semi-private facility under the Pine Needles/Mid Pines ownership group, with daily-fee access alongside memberships. The 18-hole course presents a compact, rolling walk across bold sand ridges and knolls, with restored sandy wastes and wiregrass framing reclaimed fairway widths. Practice facilities include a range and short-game areas, and since 2023 the property also features Overhills, an eighteen-hole putting course on the footprint of the former Elks Lodge. The current scorecard lists 6,695 yards (Medal tees) at par 71, with multiple holes featuring alternate 4/5 set-ups. The playing experience emphasizes elevation change, diagonal bunkering and ground contours into small-to-mid-sized greens—qualities reinforced by a 2020-21 restoration that expanded green perimeters, removed trees to reopen long views, and reintroduced natural Sandhills textures. Guests today encounter a historically grounded Ross course rendered in a firm, running presentation, with the option to play a short bonus “Lost Hole” par-3 between Nos. 4 and 15 that nods to an early-1910s loop.
