Wampanoag Country Club

Set on 166 acres along North Main Street in West Hartford, Wampanoag Country Club is a private 18-hole course where a recently completed restoration has refreshed a classic Donald Ross canvas for modern play. The club celebrated its centennial in 2024 and today presents bent-grass tees, fairways, and greens, a walkable routing with generous width, and long views over subtly rolling ground. Facilities include a full clubhouse with dining, pool, and platform tennis, plus practice range and short-game areas; the club is members-only, with guest play by invitation. From the everyday Blue tees the course measures about 6,610 yards (par 72), while new back tees extend the championship setup to just over 7,000 yards—used for state events and elite member competitions. The 2022–23 restoration by Tyler Rae and Kyle Franz, with historian-consultant Bradley S. Klein, re-established lost fairway width, expanded and re-oriented bunkers, and recaptured green perimeters, all to match surviving Ross drawings and early aerials. Recent recognition from Golf Digest (Best Renovation, 2023 list) reflects how the work made the course both more strategic and more flexible for a diverse membership.
