Woodlands Golf Course
Set beside the Hampton River a short walk from Hampton University, Woodlands Golf Course is a compact municipal layout in the Tidewater of Virginia. Today the course plays to a par of 69 over roughly 5,400 yards from its longest markers, with bentgrass greens and Bermuda fairways. Eleven holes bring water into strategic consideration, and the site’s low-lying terrain keeps the ground game in play more often than a yardage-only glance would suggest. Facilities are modest: there is no traditional driving range, though the clubhouse and putting surfaces support steady league and daily-fee play year-round. The City of Hampton operates the course as a public venue; regular events include the Hampton Amateur and the Peninsula Women’s Championship. For visitors, the playing experience is defined less by length than by positioning, especially where the river meanders near greens and where Ault-era bunkering tightens lay-up zones. The atmosphere is community-forward and accessible; tee times can be competitive during morning windows given loyal local usage.
