Bedford Springs Hotel Golf Club

The Old Course is the golf course of the Omni Bedford Springs Resort, the mineral-springs hotel outside Bedford in south-central Pennsylvania. It is open to the public as well as to hotel guests, and Golfweek's 2026 list of Pennsylvania's public-access courses ranked it first. The clubhouse holds the pro shop and Tillie's restaurant, and the practice grounds include a range, a putting green, a short-game area and a teaching area. The course fills the floor of a narrow, wooded valley, crossing and recrossing Shobers Run, a spring-fed Gold Medal trout stream that runs the length of the property. Water or wetland is in play throughout the front nine and on several holes coming home, and the ends of the valley bring the elevation changes, most famously at the steep uphill par-3 4th. From the Medal tees the course measures 6,785 yards, par 72, rated 73.7 with a slope of 140; tee sets named for Ross, Tillinghast and Oldham bring it down to 5,106 yards. Three designers' work is on view in one round: Spencer Oldham's 1895 course, A. W. Tillinghast's 1912 revision and Donald Ross's 1923 expansion. Ron Forse's restoration, which reopened the course in 2007, rebuilt every hole and kept features from each era, and the resort's hole guide names the architect of each hole, so the Ross holes, Tillinghast's par-3 Tiny Tim and Oldham's geometric bunkers can be picked out along the way.
