Blowing Rock Country Club

Blowing Rock Country Club is a private, seasonal club on Country Club Drive in Blowing Rock, a summer resort town in North Carolina's High Country. The golf course, once the public Green Park-Norwood Golf Course, runs north and uphill from the Green Park Inn through a neighbourhood of 1920s summer cottages and along the Eastern Continental Divide. The spring that heads the New River rises near the 12th tee, and the 15th and 16th play beside the Mt. Bethel church cemetery. From the Gold tees the course is 6,244 yards and par 72, with five par 3s and five par 5s. It plays over hilly ground on narrow fairways framed by white pines and other evergreens, with streams crossing several holes, and the club describes greens that present precise targets and reward accuracy over distance. The club presents it as North Carolina's only Seth Raynor course, a credit that replaced an older attribution to Donald Ross. Since 2016 architect Kris Spence has rebuilt holes in phases around Raynor's template forms, among them a Redan at the 2nd, a Short at the 6th, an Eden at the 10th and a drop-shot par 4 over a stream bed at the 13th. The club is open from May through October, with dining, a fitness center, tennis and croquet. Play is for members and their guests.
