Camden Country Club

Camden Country Club is a private club on Knights Hill Road on the north side of Camden, South Carolina, a town known for its winter colony and horse training. The 18-hole course plays to par 70 and 6,471 yards from Tee 4, the longest of five tee sets, with par 35 on each nine. It is laid out through pines on the sandy ground of the Sandhills, and a railroad still cuts across the property: the uphill par-3 12th sits on the far side of the tracks. Corridors are tree-lined, and the greens are small, raised and steep at their edges, so where the approach finishes decides much of the scoring. The club presents the course as a blend of Walter Travis's routing and Donald Ross's 1939 rebuild. Sandy native areas have replaced rough on a number of holes since 2012, and the greens are MiniVerde bermuda. A restoration by architect Scot Sherman began in 2025, working from the club's Travis and Ross drawings: greenside bunkers first, then fairway bunkers and more native areas, with the greens to be regrassed in a final phase. Expect bunkers and surrounds to be changing through 2026. The club also has a pool, runs junior golf, and has been the usual home of the Carolinas Golf Association's Four-Ball Championship since the event began in 1950.
