Daytona Beach Golf Club - South

Set two miles southwest of the Atlantic shore in central Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Golf Club (South Course) is the municipal facility’s original 18 and the locus of Donald Ross’s work on the property. Operated by the City of Daytona Beach, the 36-hole complex offers a lighted driving range, putting green, full pro shop, and a casual restaurant, with daily-fee access and league/tournament programming typical of a large muni. The South Course plays today as a compact, walkable Ross design with par 71 and back-tee yardage a touch over 6,200 yards; its corridors move through live oaks and pines with few water hazards, and the most memorable landmarks are the Florida East Coast Railway tracksskirting multiple holes. Tee shots are generally accommodating, but approach shots into firm, relatively small surfacesdetermine scoring. The companion North Course (a separate non-Ross 18) adds capacity for outings and local play. Visitors encounter an unvarnished, historic Florida muni rather than a resort setting: straightforward services, a loyal local clientele, and a South Course that still tracks most of Ross’s routing while reflecting mid-century changes and ongoing municipal upkeep.
