The Road Hole, a Ross fairway line and the hardest hole

The club counts the 8th among the three holes whose fairway lines are unchanged from Donald Ross's 1914 redesign. The club calls it the Road Hole, and it is stroke index 1 and the longest par 4 on the card. It runs straight. A creek crosses on a diagonal about 100 to 130 yards from the tee, and a second creek winds across about 60 to 90 yards short of the green's centre. Four bunkers line the right side of the green, the largest at the back right, with none on the left. The club describes a false front, a middle depression and a back tier.
