Crestmont Country Club

Crestmont Country Club is a private club in West Orange, New Jersey, on about 300 acres of rolling Essex County land off Eagle Rock Avenue. Its 18-hole course plays to par 72 and 6,866 yards from the Black tees, with Blue, Blue/White, White, Green/White and Green tees below that, down to 5,139 yards. The course is a Donald Ross design of 1923, remodelled by Robert Trent Jones in 1978 and later restored toward Ross by Ron Forse. Today it is heavily bunkered: Top 100 Golf Courses counts more than 90 bunkers, including cross bunkers and greens almost ringed by sand, as on the 5th and 11th. Ponds come into play more than on most Ross courses, notably on the 8th, 11th and 12th, and several holes run between lines of trees. Both nines finish with a par 5. Quirks of the routing are part of the visit. The 1st and 10th fairways fork from the start, and the green of the par-3 11th sits almost against the 1st green. Golf Club Atlas posters describe the greens as small and mostly round, tilted back to front, so a ball above the hole is a hard putt at speed. The club hosts regional qualifying regularly, including a 2024 U.S. Open local qualifier, and held the MGA Senior Open in 2011. Play is for members and their guests; the club also books golf outings.
